How We Started

Chuck Patton, co-owner of Traffic Builders Inc with his wife Tricia, has been a Louisville entrepreneur for 23 years in the marketing and advertising industry.  After selling his company in 2015, Chuck was looking to start another venture with three ideal objectives – Have fun, be different, and be an industry disruptor.  While vacationing in Charleston SC. Chuck and Tricia experienced their very first cat cafe.  Little did he know that this would be his next challenge and lead to opening Kentucky’s first cat café in Louisville.

“I knew this was a concept that Louisville would embrace and support and I had to bring it back to the Highlands.  Also, having the Kentucky Humane Society as a resource to make this come true, was huge.  I want my entrepreneural and business experience to be a strong backbone for this cause, allowing Purffect day to make an impact in our community for a very long time.”

Chuck is a graduate of WKU and has two children, Chase Patton and Kayla Patton, along with his wife Tricia.

Purrfect FAQS

What is a cat café?

It’s all about Purr, Play and Sip. Very simply, humans and cats get to interact in a fun and cozy atmosphere. The felines are playful, relaxing, and adoptable. The humans are relaxed, entertained, and happy.

Is the café accessible by wheelchair?

Our cafe is indeed wheelchair-accessible! Visitors may enter through the front door, visit the cat lounge, and also enjoy our bar area since it is all on one level.

How do the cat visitations work?

There is a visitation fee of $15 to enter the cat lounge. Visitors are allowed 50 minutes with our feline residents to play, cuddle and sip. You may purchase a drink (beer, wine, bourbon, tea, coffee, soda) to enjoy while in the cat lounge during your session; however, drinks can’t come back into the café. It’s a one-way street (to follow KY health codes). We suggest to arrive 15 minutes early to browse the menu and grab a paw-stry or other cat themed snack. Food cannot go into the cat lounge.

How does the café part work?

No reservations are needed to enjoy the café – walk in anytime to enjoy our menu, shop our merchandise and view the kitties through our wall of windows. We have a unique Roebling Bridge themed bar that is separated from the cat lounge – even with separate HVAC systems. There’s plenty of space to watch the kitties from inside the café. For the future, we have a lovely outdoor space planned!

What can I expect when I enter the cat lounge?

Cats, cuddles, and purrs. We recommend simply sitting down and letting the cats come to you (don’t worry, they will)! The Purrfect Day cat room is where our adoptable kitties call home, and you can expect them to be doing all the normal activities they would do at your furever home; such as playing, climbing, eating and napping, lots of napping. Sometimes the cat room may be full of cat-action, and other times it may be all zen and quiet. There is plenty to enjoy in both scenarios.

How is my participation supporting a cause?

The cats and kittens at Purrfect Day Café are provided by our shelter partners. We are a foster facility with the goal of changing the way adoptions happen. We offer the purrfect setting for humans and cats to find their purrfect match. Your visit helps keep felines out of the traditional shelter environment and supports a model that results in a higher rate of successful adoptions.

What is your booking policy?

CANCELLATIONS: You may cancel your reservation up to 24 hours prior to your visit for a full refund.  After that time, we are unable to refund reservations due to it keeping us from booking other visitors on short notice.  All ages are welcome lounge with an accompanying adult; however Friday and Saturday evening sessions from 6pm until close are reserved for Adults Only. If you need to cancel or change your reservation, you may go to your emailed booking receipt to modify or cancel (if it is under 24 hours prior to your scheduled reservation).

Looking to adopt?

Here are the details on how to make that happen at the PDC Covington:
All adoptable kittens and cats come to us from PAWS of Dearborn, Cincinnati Animal Care, League for Animal Welfare, and Kenton County Animal Services (KCAS) and have an average adoption fee of $120 plus tax. If you need a cardboard carrier to take your new family member home (you may certainly bring your own carrier to the cafe), you may purchase one from the PDC for an extra $6. All cats and kittens have been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, received their flea and de-wormer treatments, and basic booster shots. They are also negative for Feline Leukemia. You will also receive a gift of 30-days of complimentary pet insurance via our partners at MetLife!

So, I CAN adopt a cat at Purrfect Day Café?

Oh yes, and we would love it if you did! We have matchmakers right here in the café that will help you find the right cat for you or your family and will walk you through the process. We follow the guidelines of our shelter partners for all adoptions. We record all our adoptions and post them – our goal is to find great homes for all our furry friends so that we can foster more. Keep checking back to see the impact that you, our loyal guests, are making!

Where does the PDC get its cats?

The cats and kittens at Purrfect Day Café are provided by PAWS of Dearborn, Cincinnati Animal Care, League for Animal Welfare, and Kenton County Animal Services (KCAS). We are a foster facility with the goal of changing the way adoptions happen. We offer the purrfect setting for humans and cats to find their purrfect match.
KCAS has an outreach to several different counties in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. Many of our kitties are transferred in from rural shelters that do not have the resources to support felines.

Where do the cats sleep at night?

We get this question all the time, and the answer is simply, wherever their hearts are most content – which is the beauty of our concept. The ktties have free reign of the cat lounge, but they typically settle down amongst a big furry puddle of cats. We are a foster home for all the kitties until they find their furrever homes, but they have quite a spread while they are our guests here.

How old do you need to be to visit the cat lounge?

All ages are welcome in the cat lounge with an accompanying adult; however Friday
and Saturday evening sessions from 6pm until close are reserved for Adults Only. Anyone under 13 must have a parent or guardian present.
We do ask that parents keep close supervision of their little ones around the kitties. Our felines need to feel super secure in their environment and know that everyone that’s chilling with them is chill. We also have special events and reserved sessions for children, such as pajama story times with crafts.

Do you offer private parties?

Oh yes, we do! We love to host parties of all kinds – birthdays, bachelorettes, wedding showers, baby showers, and more. We can offer packages that take care of all the details, or you can just rent the cat room and handle the details yourself, whichever you prefer. Head on over to our “Private Pawties” section of the site and email our event coordinator for more information at [email protected]

I heard you have memberships?

We do! We know that cat lovers want to visit often, and we want that too. So, now you can become a member of our “Nine Lives Club” and get your ninth visit free! Just ask for a complimentary punch card when you come in for your visit!

Are you increasing adoptions?

Absolutely! We average adoptions in the double-triple digits every month!
We post all of our adoptions on our Facebook feed so that the community can see all of the kitties’ fabulous new furrever homes.

How do I make a reservation?

Just click on Book Now. You will see real time availability for each day and time slot, and you simply select your desired time for the number of people in your group. You pay online at the time of booking and agree to our terms and conditions. You will receive an email confirmation for your reservation, and if you need to make a change, you can do so up to 24 hrs prior to your reservation. You’ll probably want to arrive at the café early so you can grab a drink and snack while you watch the kitties through the windows while. You wait for your session to start.

I found a cat OR need to give up my cat. May I bring it to the cafe?

We’re sorry, but we cannot accept cats at the cafe because we need to ensure that the cafe cats are not exposed to illnesses.
We recommend you contact your local animal shelter for assistance as they are county-specific.

Do I need to have a reservation to come to the cafe?

No reservation is needed to enjoy drinks and snacks at the cafe; however. If you want to snuggle kitties during your visit, we highly recommend a reservation. Capacity in the cat lounge is limited to ensure an enjoyable experience, and many times we are fully booked. We do gladly accept walk-ins when there is open availability in the cat lounge.

Where does my cat lounge visitation fee go?

First of all, that money goes to keep the lights on, the heat/air going, the rent paid, and a cozy roof over our kitties’ heads. It also covers extra supplies that our shelter partners cannot provide – scratching posts, toys, fluffy beds, kitty wipes, treats, baking soda, first aid animal, etc. And finally, it helps us to pay our hard-working staff who care for our kitties and serve our guests. Kitty care is really expensive, so your money really helps us provide them with a comfy, beautiful place to stay. And remember – your adoption fee assists our shelter partners in their operations, too!

What else is there to do at the cafe?

LOTS! We have a busy calendar of events each month, such as Yoga with Kitties, Trivia Nights, Purr, PAINT, Sip Art Events, Storyime for Kiddos, and more. Additionally, we offer free wi-fi and plenty of comfy space for you to meet up with friends or work/study while you watch kitties and enjoy tea or coffee. “Work-from-home” doesn’t get any better than at Purrfect Day Café.

How do I adopt a cat from the cafe?

Once you have found the right fit, then the process is simple from there. You can simply complete an application with one of our Adoption Counselors and most adoptions are approved in the same day or within 24-48 hours Adoptions are available 7 days a week. Please note that kitties leave us very quickly, so we urge you NOT to fall in love via social media since a kitty may already have been adopted by the time you come to the cafe!

What veterinary care have the cats had before coming to the PDC?

All cats and kittens have been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, received their flea and de-wormer treatments, plus basic booster shots. They are also tested negative for both Feline Leukemia. Kitties 4 months and older have also received their rabies vaccinations.

How many people are in the cat room at one time?

Typically there are 16 people in the cat lounge during each session and the number will vary with current regulations and with the number of felines, to give all equal opportunity for quality time with the kitties.

How do I get there and where do I park?

We are located at 25 West 8 th Street, in the 8 th Street Commons Development of Covington, KY, just one block off of Madison Ave, and directly behind Braxton Brewery. We have 10 designated parking spots in the lot across the street, as well as street parking and a public
parking lot adjacent to us on Washington Street.

You may also use your gift card for any in-store purchase of apparel, food, drinks, etc. They may NOT be used toward an adoption.

PURRFECT DAY CAFE CAT LOUNGE EXPECTATIONS

Our kitties need kind and respectful treatment to keep them happy and healthy. Following these simple rules will help to create an amazing experience for both you and our cats.

Please sanitize your hands before entering and upon leaving the cat lounge.

No outside kitties allowed. Our kitties are the stars (although we’re sure your cat is lovely)!

NO human food is allowed in the cat lounge. And please no outside items such as catnip, laser pointers, treats, toys, etc. Don’t be sneaky now!

Speaking of food, please do not disturb cats if they are eating or drinking.

All beverages must be consumed completely while you are in the cat lounge. So purr, play, and sip that drink away, ya’ll!

Visitors under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Only 2 children per each adult, please.

Children must be supervised at all times.
Parents are responsible for enforcing the PDC Cat Lounge rules with their children during a visit. If deemed necessary, the PDC Staff will intervene to limit children’s interaction based on behavior.

Please ask before petting a sleeping cat or picking up any cat. Feel free to ask a PDC Staff member if you’d like to hold a kitty. And if a cat jumps on your lap, congratulations! You are a chosen one!

Please no FLASH photography.
Our kitties love being celebrities, but don’t like the flash! DO feel free to post on all forms of social media. To truly enjoy your “expurrience,” we suggest you take time to just BE in the moment.

If you see a cat you would like to adopt, please talk to our knowledgeable House Cats or PDC Volunteers. We can help you learn the personality and history of each of our kitties, and then hopefully start the adoption process for your new furry family member!

PLEASE REMEMBER:
Kitties are cute and cuddly, but they do have sharp claws and teeth. Sometimes they are a little moody. Please refer to our PDC posters on feline behaviors to better understand the complicated creature that is a cat. MEOW!

Any individuals who are unable to comply with the rules will be asked to leave and will not receive a refund. But we know that’s not going to happen because our customers are PAWSOME!

Want to know more? Contact us and we’ll get back with you, hopefully with an answer!
